Cacao at Light Nourishment
A ceremony of connection, intention and presence
Cacao is more than chocolate. For thousands of years, cacao has held an important place within the cultures and traditions of Central and South America, where it has been shared in community, ceremony and celebration.
At Light Nourishment, cacao is approached with reverence and intention. A cacao ceremony offers you the opportunity to slow down, step away from the noise of everyday life and create space to reconnect with yourself. You don't need to arrive with a particular intention. You don't need to have experienced ceremony before. Simply come as you are.

What is Ceremonial Cacao?
Ceremonial cacao is made from the cacao bean and is prepared in a way that allows much of the natural character of the cacao to remain. Unlike the chocolate we are familiar with as a sweet treat, ceremonial cacao is usually prepared without the large amounts of sugar and other ingredients found in conventional chocolate. Cacao naturally contains a range of plant compounds, including theobromine, magnesium, iron and flavonoids.
But within ceremony, cacao is about more than its nutritional composition — it becomes part of an intentional experience, a moment to pause, listen inwardly and connect with yourself. For many people, cacao carries a sense of warmth, comfort and connection.
Cacao as a ceremonial experience
Cacao has a long history of being shared within ritual and community. At Light Nourishment, I honour cacao as a ceremonial ally — approaching it with respect rather than seeing it as something that is there to create a particular outcome.
There is no promise of what you will experience. Some people feel deeply relaxed. Some notice emotions or memories arising. Some experience warmth, tingling or a feeling of openness. Others simply enjoy the ritual of slowing down and being present. Your experience may be completely different from someone else's. And that's okay.

What is a Cacao Ceremony?
A cacao ceremony is an intentional space where cacao is shared alongside practices that encourage presence, reflection and connection. Each ceremony is different, depending on the theme, intention and energy of the group.
Your experience may include: a grounding practice; connecting with the cacao; intention setting; guided meditation or visualisation; breathwork; gentle movement or embodiment; journalling; music and sound; silence and stillness; reflection and integration. You are never expected to participate in anything that doesn't feel right for you. You can sit, lie down, move, be still, or simply listen. There is no right way to experience ceremony.
Your Cacao Journey
When you arrive, you'll be given time to settle into the space and leave the outside world behind. We'll begin by gently grounding into the present moment before connecting with the cacao. You may be invited to set an intention for your ceremony. This doesn't need to be complicated — your intention might be something you're ready to release, something you'd like to invite into your life, or simply: "I give myself permission to be here." From there, the ceremony unfolds.
Depending on the session, we may move through meditation, breath, movement, sound, reflection or stillness. There is no fixed experience you need to reach. The invitation is simply to be present and curious.

What might you experience?
Everyone responds to cacao and ceremony differently. You may notice: a feeling of warmth or comfort; deep relaxation; a sense of grounding; greater awareness of your emotions; a feeling of connection; moments of reflection or insight; creativity or inspiration; a sense of emotional openness; physical sensations such as warmth or tingling; or simply the opportunity to slow down and rest.
You may experience something profound. You may experience very little. Both are completely valid. There is no right or wrong experience. Cacao meets you where you are.
The heart of ceremony
Ceremony isn't about fixing yourself. It's not about forcing an emotional release or trying to become someone different. It's about creating space — space to listen, space to feel, space to breathe, space to reconnect with the parts of yourself that can sometimes become lost beneath the demands of everyday life. You don't have to force anything to happen.
You don't have to have an emotional experience. You don't have to "do" ceremony perfectly. You are simply invited to arrive exactly as you are.

Cacao & Sound
At Light Nourishment, cacao may be woven together with sound to create a deeper sensory experience. Depending on the ceremony, this may include gongs, other sound instruments, music, meditation or periods of silence.
The combination of cacao and sound creates a beautiful opportunity to move from the busyness of everyday life into a quieter, more inward space. You may find yourself becoming deeply relaxed, reflective or absorbed in the experience. Or you may simply enjoy being held within the atmosphere of the ceremony.
After the ceremony
Give yourself a little time to gently return to your day. You may feel peaceful, energised, reflective, emotional, grounded or simply relaxed.
There is no particular feeling you are supposed to have. If something has arisen for you during the ceremony, you may find it helpful to journal, spend some quiet time alone or simply notice what continues to unfold. Integration doesn't have to be complicated. Sometimes it is simply allowing yourself to slow down and listen.

Come exactly as you are
You don't need to be spiritual. You don't need to meditate. You don't need to know anything about cacao. You don't need to have attended a ceremony before.
And you don't need to believe that anything magical is going to happen. Come with curiosity. Come with an open mind. Come tired. Come joyful. Come uncertain. Come exactly as you are. There is space for you here.
A gentle note about cacao
Cacao contains naturally occurring theobromine and small amounts of caffeine and may not be suitable for everyone. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have a heart or cardiovascular condition, have been advised to limit stimulants, take medication that may interact with cacao, or have any health concerns, please read the Safety & Contraindications information and seek appropriate professional advice before participating.
Please also let me know about any allergies, intolerances or dietary requirements before your ceremony. Cacao ceremonies are complementary wellbeing experiences and are not intended to diagnose, treat or cure any physical or psychological condition.

Your invitation
Take a pause from the outside world. Come into the present moment. Connect with cacao. Set an intention. Listen inwardly. And give yourself permission to simply be.
