Gong Baths

A journey into deep rest, stillness and sound

Imagine lying back, closing your eyes and allowing yourself to be completely held by sound. As the gongs begin to resonate, layers of rich, deep frequencies move through the space around you. There is nothing you need to do, nowhere you need to be and nothing you need to achieve. Simply arrive, breathe and receive.

A Light Nourishment Gong Bath is an immersive sound experience created to give you space to slow down, switch off from the outside world and reconnect with yourself.

What is a Gong Bath?

Despite its name, you won't be getting wet! A Gong Bath is a deeply immersive sound meditation where you are surrounded by the vibrations and tones of gongs and other sound instruments. You will usually lie comfortably on a mat, wrapped in blankets, with your eyes closed while I guide you gently into a state of rest before taking you on a journey through sound.

You don't need any previous experience with meditation or sound healing. There is no right or wrong way to experience a Gong Bath. You may feel deeply relaxed, drift in and out of sleep, experience thoughts, emotions or sensations, or simply enjoy the sound. Your experience is your own.

Your Gong Bath Experience

At Light Nourishment, I create more than simply a space to lie down and listen to gongs. Each session is thoughtfully held as an opportunity to pause, reconnect and come back to yourself. Depending on the session, you may be invited to set an intention, take part in a grounding meditation or journey through ceremonial elements before settling into the sound. Once the gongs begin, there is nothing you need to do — you can simply allow yourself to be supported by the experience.

As the sound moves around you, the mind can begin to soften, the body can settle and you may find yourself entering a deeply restful and meditative state. There is no expectation to meditate, no expectation to empty your mind, no expectation to feel a certain way. You can simply rest.

What might you experience?

Everyone experiences sound differently, and every Gong Bath can feel different too. You may experience: a sense of deep relaxation and stillness; a quieter or less busy mind; a feeling of spaciousness; deep rest or sleep; emotional release or reflection; tingling, warmth or other physical sensations; a sense of being grounded and present; moments of clarity or insight; or simply an opportunity to stop and breathe.

You don't need to look for an experience or make anything happen. Sometimes the most nourishing thing we can do is simply allow ourselves to rest.

The Sound Journey

Gongs produce a vast range of tones, frequencies and overtones that interact and blend together to create an ever-changing soundscape. I work intuitively with the gongs, allowing the sound journey to unfold rather than following a rigid sequence. The experience may move between deep, grounding tones and lighter, more delicate sounds, creating moments of intensity followed by spaciousness and quiet.

Using instruments including symphonic and planetary gongs alongside other sound instruments, I create an immersive journey that invites you to let go of the outside world and turn your attention inward.

You don't need to know how to meditate

If you've ever thought "I'm not very good at meditation" — you don't need to be. A Gong Bath isn't about clearing your mind or trying to achieve a particular state. Thoughts may come and go. You may fall asleep. You may become deeply absorbed in the sound. You may notice sensations or emotions.

Or you may simply lie there and enjoy having some time where nobody needs anything from you. There is no right way to do it.

What to bring

I want you to be as comfortable as possible during your experience. You may wish to bring: a yoga mat or comfortable surface to lie on; a blanket or cosy layers; a pillow; an eye mask if you prefer darkness; water; anything else that helps you feel comfortable and supported. I recommend wearing comfortable, warm clothing as your body temperature can naturally change while you are resting.

What to expect

When you arrive, you'll be given time to settle into your space. We'll begin by gently bringing our attention away from the outside world and into the present moment. There may be an intention-setting practice, meditation or ceremonial element before the sound journey begins, depending on the session.

You'll then settle down comfortably, close your eyes and allow the gong bath to unfold. The sound journey will gradually come to an end, giving you time to gently reconnect with your surroundings before you leave. Some people feel energised afterwards. Others feel peaceful, emotional, sleepy or deeply grounded. There is no particular feeling you are supposed to have. Give yourself permission to simply notice whatever is there.

A space to pause

Life can be loud. Work, family, responsibilities, notifications, expectations and the constant feeling that we should be doing something. A Gong Bath offers something beautifully simple: time to stop. Time where you don't have to achieve anything. Time to breathe. Time to listen. Time to come back to yourself.
