Reiki

A gentle space to pause, soften and reconnect

Reiki is a gentle Japanese energy-based practice traditionally associated with relaxation, balance and wellbeing. At Light Nourishment, Reiki offers you an opportunity to step away from the noise of everyday life and spend some quiet time simply being. You don't need to arrive with a particular intention, belief or experience. You can simply come as you are.

What is Reiki?

The word Reiki comes from the Japanese words Rei, meaning universal or spiritual, and Ki, meaning life force or energy. Reiki was developed in Japan in the early 20th century and is traditionally understood as a practice working with universal life-force energy. During a Reiki session, the practitioner uses gentle touch or holds their hands just above the body, depending on your preference.

From a Reiki perspective, the practice is intended to encourage a sense of balance and harmony within the energetic system. You don't need to understand how Reiki works to experience it. There is no need to meditate, clear your mind or believe in anything in particular. You are simply invited to relax and notice what the experience brings for you.

Your Reiki Experience

Your session begins with time to arrive, settle and talk about how you're feeling. You may wish to share something you'd like to focus on, or you may simply want some time to switch off and rest. You'll then make yourself comfortable, usually lying down or sitting, fully clothed.

The Reiki session is offered through gentle touch or with the hands held just above the body, according to your preference. Once the session begins, there is nothing you need to do. You can close your eyes, breathe naturally and allow yourself to relax. Some people experience warmth, tingling, a sense of lightness or deep relaxation. Others may notice emotions, thoughts or sensations arising. Some people experience very little at all. Every experience is different. There is no right or wrong way to receive Reiki.

What might you experience?

Reiki is often experienced as a deeply calming and restful practice. You may notice: a feeling of deep relaxation; a quieter or less busy mind; a sense of calm and stillness; feeling more grounded or centred; a sense of spaciousness; emotional reflection or release; warmth, tingling or other sensations; a feeling of being restored or replenished; time and space simply to rest.

You don't need to seek any particular outcome. Sometimes the most valuable part of a Reiki session is simply having permission to stop.

Reiki at Light Nourishment

My approach to Reiki is gentle, intuitive and nurturing. I create a calm, supportive space where you can slow down and reconnect with yourself without judgement or expectation.

Each session is different because each person arrives with something different. I don't believe you need to be "fixed." Instead, Reiki offers a space to listen inwardly, rest and become more aware of what you may need in the moment. You remain completely in control throughout your session, and your comfort and boundaries are always respected.

Do I need to believe in Reiki?

No. You don't need a particular spiritual or religious belief system to receive Reiki. You can approach it simply as an opportunity to relax and experience something different. Come with curiosity rather than expectation.

What should I wear?

Reiki is received fully clothed, so there is no need to change. Comfortable, loose clothing is recommended so that you can relax easily. You may also wish to bring anything that helps you feel comfortable and cosy.

After your session

Give yourself a little space after your Reiki session if you can. You may feel calm, relaxed, energised, reflective or sleepy afterwards. You may notice something during the session, or perhaps nothing immediately at all. There is no particular response you are supposed to have. Allow yourself time to gently come back into your day and notice how you feel.

A moment for you

Life can be full of noise, responsibility and things that need your attention. Reiki gives you permission to put all of that down for a while. To breathe. To be still. To listen inwardly. To simply receive. You don't have to arrive feeling a certain way. You can come tired. You can come overwhelmed. You can come curious. Or you can simply come because you want some time for yourself. You are welcome exactly as you are.
